Breton Dances in Balfolk
If you hear a Breton tune, like a gavotte, and your reaction is to look at the dancefloor, see several ways to dance it and wonder “Which version is the right one for this tune?”, this is the workshop for you. During this workshop we will look at the history of the dances from Bretagne and see how they’ve evolved in balfolk. Several different types of music will be presented and see why some songs are danced differently than others. We will also dive into more advanced techniques while dancing in chains, such as how we can use both our arms and our feet, communication in chains, and how we can use this to convey messages to each other.
Teachers: Leo Visser (and assistant)
Duration: Preferably at least 3.5 hours.
Requirements: A sound system where we can plug in laptop in. An even floor, not too slippery.
Prerequisites for participants: This workshop is an advanced workshop. It can be combined with the Breton Zero to Hero workshop to make one big workshop. If not, then I expect people to be on a level where they can join in a kost ar c’hoad confidently.
